The Soucie Family at the Maroon Bells

Gary and Jennifer Soucie and their kids Amanda (23), Nate (21) and Walker (15) got together for their first family portraits in a very long time… It was a gorgeous morning and lots of fun to boot… Gary even said it was!  Jennifer is the Director of Camp Runamuk in Carbondale – and Gary is the owner of Avalanche Professional Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning – they also do water restoration and mold remediation.  He can be reached at 970-963-8000.

Basalt’s Best Party of the Year Once Again

The Basalt Education Foundation (formerly known as Basalt Kids) once again hosted the annual Taste of Basalt at the Roaring Fork Club… and even a cold snowy night could not keep the loyal Basaltines away from their favorite fundraiser for the Basalt school system.  Jackie Daly Photography once again donated her services to this generous and much needed non-profit endeavor.

Woody Creek Distillers (WCD) is finally open!  The much anticipated Grand Opening of the hyperlocal (meaning their potatoes are grown within a twenty mile radius) vodka, whiskey and eau de vie distillery debuted on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 to a large crowd of locals and visitors alike.

Pat and Mary Scanlan along with Mark Kleckner and his significant other Tracey Snow have been hard at work pulling together the resources and locally grown produce to distill their own vodka and whiskey.  The much anticipated Grand Opening did not disappoint as numerous locals and visitors dropped in to sample the vodka and whiskey at Basalt’s newest business venture.

David Roberts and Carol Ann Mawdsley of Jersey, Wales came all the over way from the UK (and Aspen) to enjoy a shot of vodka with WCD bartender Kevin.

The Romaneks came all the way from Illinois (and Aspen) to partake of the smooth libations at the WCD Grand Opening.

At the peak of the party, there were approximately 100 guests in attendance and owners Mark and Pat were constantly giving tours of the amazing facility and describing the process and time it takes to produce just one batch of potato based vodka.  The potatoes are grown on the Scanlan ranch in Woody Creek and 550,000 pounds of potatoes are grown on just one 30 acre garden plot.  The potato harvesting season only lasts for three months and requires quite a few extra hands to clean and process all of the potatoes.

One of the owners, Pat Scanlan, giving a tour of the distillery.  It’s amazing how much science and engineering is involved in producing consistently high quality vodka and spirits.  Both Pat and COO Mark Kleckner have extensive backgrounds in engineering and management.

Sue and Ken Krehbiel, owners of Signature Framing, a neighbor to WCD, listen to Pat’s expertise on the finer points of distilling vodka.

The stills themselves are a thing of beauty and show what a high class operation WCD truly is…

And the bottles too!  The logo was designed by an Aspen graphic design firm.  We all appreciate the value and good karma that “buying local” brings to Basalt and our valley and the world at large.

Mike Scanlon, Town Manager of Basalt and Basalt Mayor Jacque Whitsitt, present Pat Scanlan with the Town of Basalt Proclamation Plaque.  My apologies to Mark Kleckner who was out giving a facility tour during this presentation.

Mayor Jacque with the General Contractor Caldera Construction Inc. owner Ray Paschal and friend Marc Tergeoglou who is the owner of Athens Builders in Basalt

Mayor Jacque, Mike Scanlan, and Stubbies owner Trent Castleberry.  Trent will be carrying the WCD vodka at Stubbies….another venerable Basalt business supporting WCD.

Mark Kleckner with Construction Superintendent Scott White of Geoframe and Mike Scott of Thurston Kitchen and Bath located at the Aspen Airport Business Center.

Locals Sandy and Charles Israel of Aspen made the trek to the Grand Opening

Ruth, Mark and Bonnie Starr of Jack Wilkie Builders Inc. are located just down the street from the new Distillery.

Corporate Headshots

Valerie Gilliam
Cornerstone Home Lending

Valerie Gilliam is a 26 year veteran of the Aspen mortgage industry and knows the business better than anyone we know!  She has been with Cornerstone Home Lending Inc. for 4 years.  “Big or small… I do them all” is her tagline and she enjoys working with all types of clients from first time homebuyers to those who want to save money through a refinance.  Valerie started in the banking industry in Houston, TX as an after school job in 1977 as a 17 year old!  What knowledge and experience she brings to the table through all of her years in the industry !

This is the third time that Jackie Daly Photography has been retained by Valerie for corporate headshots over the last 10 years or so…. I love the opportunity to work with my clients who are also friends.  I strive to create a relaxed photographic environment so that my subjects feel at home in front of the camera.  In the end, the images we capture are always more relaxed and true because my style is relaxed and unpretentious.

Thanks again to Valerie for having me as your photographer and I look forward to the next opportunity to photograph you and yours!

Aspen Wedding Photography T Lazy 7 Ranch starring Shelbi and Ben Bauer. Shelbi and Ben tied the knot at the foot of the Maroon Bells, at the T Lazy 7 Ranch on a perfect Aspen, Colorado fall day.  The T Lazy 7 is Aspen’s authentic Western Guest Ranch and is an Aspen favorite for weddings and parties year round and snowmobiling to the Maroon Bells in the winter.  The Maroon Bells are the most photographed peaks in all of North America! (according to the T Lazy 7 radio ads) and no matter the season or the weather, the Bells are always awe-inspiring.

September 22, 2012 brought beautiful weather and the quintessential yellow Aspen leaves for all of the wedding guests to enjoy and savor.  The day started with Shelbi getting ready at the newly remodeled Annabelle Inn on Main Street, Aspen while Ben helped with logistics at the wedding site.

It was an amazing day all the way around and the wedding lived up to everyone’s expectations.  Ben’s family came in from Florida and Alabama and Shelbi was raised in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  In fact, her mom Cindy Kenney ([email protected]) of American Family Insurance in Basalt hired me to take Shelbi’s senior pictures back in 2002… Wow, how time flies!  Cindy does the insurance for our HOA here in Holland Hills and the business insurance for my husband and myself!  She is wonderful and attentive.

The big day was perfectly planned and coordinated by Cheryl Pitout who also did the amazing flowers – Aspen Orchids and Floral …([email protected])

The T Lazy 7 is such a relaxed Aspen venue that makes everyone including the bride feel right at home.  Shelbi and Ben did their own wedding planning and looked to their friends to help them pull off a beautiful event all the way around.  Smoke Modern BBQ – catered the event and the country western band – the Adam Ashley Band – drove to Aspen from the eastern slope of Colorado.

Engagement Photography – Shelbi and Ben

Engagement photography portraits are a fabulous way for me – “the wedding photographer” – to get to know my clients – “The Bride and Groom” and vice versa.  It’s a relaxed way for all of us to do a test drive, so to speak, and create memorable photographs at the same time.  We get to know each other and this in turn creates more love and peace and happiness on the wedding day.  Eventhough I have known Shelbi since she was a senior in high school (almost 10 years ago), I so enjoyed photographing her and Ben as a couple and getting to know them as a couple at the same time…

Shelbi and Ben will be married at the T Lazy 7 Ranch in Aspen, Colorado on September 22nd which is also the Fall Equinox… this is definately the best time of the year to be married in Aspen with the glorious fall colors and the faint smell of winter snow that will soon be on its way!

We did their engagement portraits at the end of February at River Valley Ranch in Carbondale, Colorado.  Interestingly enough, I also photographed Shelbi for her senior pictures back in the day.  So fun to work with her again and I so appreciate the “repeat” business!
